Dispelling the myths - Hypnosis 101
Unfortunately many myths abound with hypnosis. Some view it as mind control and avoid it at all costs. Others see it as 'other worldly' and evil. Nothing could be further from the truth.
As mentioned in our About Hypnosis page, hypnosis is a natural state of focused awareness. We all go into it on a regular basis. There is nothing scary or supernatural about it. There are many Christian hypnotists who have recognized the value of hypnosis in helping others. It is not of the occult or anything nefarious like that.
My family and I are Christians and we believe that this is a wonderful tool that God gave us to help others with. Of course we welcome clients from every (and no) religion. Everyone can make use of hypnosis to help themselves achieve their goals in life.
What will I experience in hypnosis ?
Most people thoroughly enjoy a hypnotic trance. They find they emerge from the trance feeling relaxed and terrific. Stress is eliminated and they feel like they have just woken from a four hour power-nap.
Will I be asleep ?
No, you will not be asleep. In a hypnotic trance you hear and perceive things better than you do out of hypnosis.
Can anybody be hypnotized?
Pretty much everybody who WANTS to be hypnotized CAN be hypnotized. That being said, you cannot enter hypnosis against your will.
Can I get 'stuck' in hypnosis ?
Not a chance. Even if someone would leave you alone (and no therapist ever would), you would emerge on your own.
Can I be forced to do something against my will ?
Again - Not a chance. Your subconscious mind would alert you to any suggestions of an improper nature and you would instantly emerge from the trance. Only in Hollywood do you see someone committing murder or some evil deed whilst in a state of hypnosis. In the real world, you would NEVER go against your moral code, no matter what.
What about Stage Hypnotism ? They don't seem to be in control.
Wrong. Even though the stage hypnotist is making them do tricks and apparently getting them to do some pretty funny stuff, it is all done with informed consent. The subjects are often extroverted and enjoy showing off. The moment a hypnotist tried to get one of them to do something outside of their comfort zone - they would immediately snap out of the trance and remember everything.
Even with hypnosis really becoming mainstream and having scientific evidence showing that it is the MOST effective tool to help people quit smoking, there is still profound misunderstanding of what hypnosis is. Don't believe everything you read. Learn about it, ask questions and find a therapist you can trust. You will be amazed at how powerful your subconscious mind is and what you can do with it. Call today and ask questions. You won't regret it.
